Implants used in a total knee replacement can fail for a variety of reasons. Even the best implants need to be replaced in 10 or 15 years. Sometimes parts loosen from the bone or the artificial joint components simply wear out from physical activity and time. If this occurs and your knee becomes painful or unstable during normal daily activities, you may need a revision surgery.
In performing a revision, your Southern Joint Replacement Institute orthopaedic surgeon will remove and replace the original total knee replacement implants. The extent of the revision will depend on the condition of your thigh bone and shin bone. Sometimes bone grafts from your body or a donor may be used or special parts may need to be created.
The compassionate surgical staff at Southern Joint Replacement Institute is happy to answer your questions about revision knee replacement and explain what type of implants will be used and why it is the right choice for you.
